The Bhundu Boys

Jit, and the band that carried Zimbabwe to British audiences

Distinguished is level 3 of 4 in the Zimbabwe Hall of Fame: sustained excellence over a career, widely honoured at home. See how the levels work.

Why they are here

They mixed chimurenga with rock and roll and pop into the sound called jit, and in the 1980s were the Zimbabwean band the world had heard of.

The Bhundu Boys were a Zimbabwean band who played a mixture of chimurenga music with American rock and roll, disco and pop influences.
