She left school to join the liberation war, became Zimbabwe's youngest cabinet minister at independence, and served ten years as vice-president.
Born in April 1955 in Mount Darwin, Joice Mujuru left secondary school after two years to join the guerrillas fighting Rhodesian rule.
At independence in 1980 she became, at twenty-five, the youngest minister in the cabinet, holding the sport, youth and recreation portfolio. She was Vice-President of Zimbabwe from 2004 to 2014.
